Tom’s Latest CDs
“Mysteries” is a collection of instrumental music for meditation; all
original music with a strong melodic content, with full orchestrations and some
solo guitar and keyboards. Lovely. This CD is now available through CDBaby.com.
“A Classical
Mood” has just been released on the Orchard Beat label. This live-in-the-studio
recording brings out the solo side of Tom Rasely’s playing like no other
previous recording. Producer Scott B. Adams brought all his expertise to this
project by creating an ambience that perfectly complements Tom’s Yamaha
classical guitar. Lots of familiar classical pieces of music, arranged for
guitar solo. As one listener put it: “Simply beautiful.”

“The
Child”
This is a nine section Christmas
Cantata for SATB choir, piano, oboe, cello and narrator written by Tom Rasely
and Joe Connolly. Joe is the pastor/teacher of UCC First Congregational Church
in Norwich, and the texts were lovingly adapted from sermons which were given
at Christmas Eve services over the past 12 years. The full score of this
cantata is now available as a pdf download. For more information, contact the church office.
Cantata:
“God’s Gift of Music”

This 6-movement cantata for choir
(SATB) and multiple keyboards and oboe was written in 2009 by Tom and his good
friend Douglas V. Rose. It was commissioned for the Monday Evening Musical Club
in Norwich NY to celebrate their 100th anniversary. The premier
performance was held at the UCC church in Norwich on October 4, 2009.
Douglas’ text is original, fresh
and vivid. The music reflects the journey of the lyrics by occasionally tapping
into traditional folk and hymn melodies. It is summed up perfectly with the
final words of the piece: “The gift of music was and always is the gift of
Love.” You can see and hear the final movement of this work on my Youtube site.
The “One Song: Amazing Grace: video project
Imagine Chenango County singing "Amazing Grace". That's what
this project is all about. The idea is to get as many people as possible singing
or playing this one song (all in the same key, but each in their own way), and
then editing the whole down to one performance. The final video is posted at my
Youtube site- use the same link as above.
Concerto for
Guitar & Orchestra
Tom’s been at it again, sitting
in front of his computer screen, placing notes all over the place, and some of
them even sound good. Performance upcoming…we hope. But seriously folks: The
Concerto for Guitar & Orchestra was written in 2007, after a long process
of editing and re-writes. It is a 3 movement work: I – “Dance and Expectation”;
II – “Lament”; and III – “Three”. It is designed to reflect my own personal
style of playing and composing, and my hope is that someone (anyone) would be
interested in performing it. At this point, there is at least one conductor of
a small regional orchestra who has expressed an interest in a performance; my
guess is with me as the soloist. More details here as they arrive.
7 Pillars of
Wisdom
That’s right, the book by Thomas E. Lawrence (aka: Lawrence of Arabia),
on which the 1962 blockbuster movie was based. This wonderfully literary
history of the Arab revolt that took place as a “sideshow of a sideshow” during
World War I, Lawrence described the activity, the culture and the scenery in
the most un-military language; beautifully poetic. The seven titles for this
collection were taken directly from the text, and the CD comes with liner notes
that explain the context of each piece. Titles include:
Silences of
Stars; Off the Pilgrim Road; Granite Spires; The Mirage Had Begun to Dance; The
Hollow Ground Re-echoed; Circle Beyond Circle; Last Light of the West/Dance of
Sunbeams
This CD is now available as a
download only at CDBaby. It is
also available on iTunes (search “Tom Rasely”)
